Mission & Vision

Instituto Mosaico

Founded with a singular mission: to foster the holistic development of children, youth, and adults in vulnerable situations, guided by the principles of love and the value of human life.

Our work spans education, arts, sports, and Christian faith — seeking to open paths for professional advancement and sociocultural growth.

"The school became a bridge between illiteracy and hope."

Institutional objectives

Provide quality education and access to knowledge in vulnerable communities

Develop professional and creative skills for the job market

Strengthen ethical, spiritual, and family values through a Christian worldview

Create safe spaces for emotional, social, and physical development

Promote community self-sustainability by developing local leaders

Timeline

A history of 28 years

1990s — Foundation

The beginning among makeshift shelters

Teachers Severino Bernardino Gomes and Azenate de Moraes Arcoverde Gomes founded the mission amid families living in vinyl shacks. The starting point was the Gospel of Christ revealed in love for the people of Parque dos Milagres — seeking to transform local reality through education, faith, and community service.

Early years — Literacy

School as a bridge between illiteracy and hope

The school began teaching reading and writing to the first generations of children — many of them children of parents who had never set foot in a classroom. In the late 1990s, Pernambuco recorded illiteracy rates above 24.5%; in peripheral communities in Recife, it exceeded 30%.

Over 28 years — Cumulative impact

Over 1,200 children directly taught to read and write

Literate children grew into young adults capable of reading, writing, and teaching others — expanding the reach of transformation. Today, with English, Graphic Design, and app development programs, the educational action goes far beyond basic literacy.

Today — 500 students in school

School with 500 children and growing institute

The elementary school serves 500 children, alongside a church that strengthens the community. Weekly classes impact over 2,100 students, with anxiety-combating retreats for approximately 400 per year. The vision is now to create a full Technical Institute — with an auditorium, professional rooms, music, and dance.

Mental health and vulnerability

Fighting the silent crisis

In recent years, rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal behavior among Brazilian teenagers have increased alarmingly. It is estimated that 16% to 20% of teenagers live with some anxiety disorder.

These numbers are even more severe in slums and high-vulnerability areas — where urban violence, structural poverty, and food insecurity intensify the situation.

Therefore, the actions of Instituto Mosaico — with retreats, group activities, and active listening — directly combat the emotional crises of a community that deeply needs these initiatives.

Future vision

The Technical Institute of Parque dos Milagres

Our vision goes beyond current achievements. We seek to create a full technical institute that amplifies the impact for future generations.

Ground floor: Auditorium & Events

Multi-purpose space for conferences, cultural presentations, graduations, and community events that strengthen the social fabric of the neighborhood.

1st Floor: Vocational Courses

Rooms for technical courses, dance, fitness, music, and early childhood education — a complete center for human and professional development.
